I Did Not Know I Was Osuofia’s Hero Until He Told Me I Had Inspired Him to Become a Comedian- Edochie

According to a video posted on Femi Babs TV on Monday October 12, 2026, veteran actor Pete Edochie said he did not know he was a hero to fellow actor Osuofia until the younger man told him he had inspired him into comedy.

Mr Edochie spoke during an interview on The African Cinema with Zualakate. The host had been speaking about the habit of reading among older actors.

He said Sam Loco and Osuofia were both passionate readers. He said some people laugh when Osuofia speaks, but he sees the depth of the man.

Mr Edochie agreed and spoke about how they came to know each other.

In his words, Pete Edochie said, “I didn’t know that I was his hero until one day. I don’t know what we were discussing, and he started reproducing most of what I said on television.

“This was before Nollywood. We were doing the company, and he was the person writing for the station, around 1988. Then he said, ‘Excuse me, sir. You inspired me into comedy.’ And a lot of people don’t know that you are an incredible comedian. I said, ‘Yes, I know,’” he said.

The host then asked him whether he had ever gone into comedy. Mr Edochie said he was incredible as a comedian.

He said he is older than Osuofia by about seven or eight years. He said they are very close.

He said many people do not know how solid a performer Osuofia is. He said this is because he makes jokes all the time. He said Osuofia is an avid reader.

He said he also writes. Mr Edochie said that those classified as belonging to the old school should be proud of reading.

He said that if belonging to the old school means having a lot in one’s head, it is a thing of pride. He said the old school worked extremely hard.
