Sindh IG Odho orders transparent investigation into deaths

Five people, including two young girls aged three and five, were found dead inside a house in Falak Naz Society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadid area, prompting a police investigation and an order for a detailed inquiry from the Sindh inspector general.

Police said a pistol and a letter were recovered from the scene. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the possibility of a criminal angle.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Shahzaib, his 28-year-old wife Saba, his 20-year-old sister Shumaila, and two young girls, five-year-old Aizel and three-year-old Aarya.

Rescue personnel and police officers reached the house after the incident was reported. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for the necessary procedures.

A heavy police presence was reported at the scene, where investigators began collecting evidence.

According to police officials, Shahzaib, who worked as a property agent, allegedly poisoned his sister and the two young girls before shooting himself and his wife.

A pistol was recovered from inside the house, while a letter was found in Shahzaib’s pocket. Police are examining the evidence to establish the circumstances and sequence of the deaths.

Authorities have said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the incident was a suicide-related case or involved other circumstances. No case had been registered at the time of the report, and relatives of the family were also being questioned.

According to police, the letter recovered from Shahzaib’s pocket referred to unemployment, financial difficulties and alleged indifference or harassment by relatives following his father’s death.

However, Shahzaib’s paternal uncle rejected the claim that the family was facing financial hardship, presenting a conflicting account of the circumstances described in the letter.

Investigators are expected to examine the letter alongside other evidence and statements from relatives to establish the facts. The claims mentioned in the letter have not been independently established.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has sought a detailed report on the incident from deputy inspector general of police (East). He directed officers to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation covering every aspect of the deaths and determine their actual causes.

“A transparent and impartial investigation covering all aspects of the incident must be conducted, and the root causes of the fatalities determined,” Odho said.

He instructed the relevant officers to take immediate steps to collect evidence from the scene and complete all necessary legal formalities, including forensic analysis.

The Sindh IG also directed investigators to identify any individuals who may have been involved and examine potential criminal aspects of the incident.

Odho further ordered that he be kept regularly informed about developments in the investigation, stressing that the inquiry must be conducted strictly in accordance with the facts.

Police are questioning relatives and reviewing the available evidence to determine what led to the deaths of the five family members in Falak Naz Society.
