“Even If All Govs Support Tinubu, We Are Not Afraid Because This Election Is About The People– Lawal
During an interview on SYMFONI’s Unfiltered podcast, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, discussed how opposition parties intended to engage Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Lawal made the remarks while responding to questions about the growing number of governors publicly supporting President Bola Tinubu.
The interviewer wanted to know whether opposition candidates could compete against the ruling party without reaching a common political agreement.
In response, Lawal explained that support from governors should not be treated as the only factor determining presidential election results.
He acknowledged that governors possess financial resources and political structures that could influence electoral campaigns.
However, he maintained that individual voters still make their own decisions when choosing presidential candidates.
According to him, opposition politicians were focusing on communicating with Nigerians about the economic and social difficulties affecting their lives.
Lawal argued that these concerns were important to understanding how citizens might approach the forthcoming presidential election.
He insisted that the number of governors supporting Tinubu had not discouraged him or others who disagreed with the administration.
Lawal said: “Even If All The Governors Support Tinubu, We Are Not Afraid Because This Election Is About The People, And We Are Speaking Directly To Their Suffering.”
