Eric Chelle Axe Three Super Eagles Players from November Squad after Defeat to Guinea-Bissau

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Monday, October 12, 2026, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to axe three players from his November squad following Nigeria’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The report stated that Chelle is already making plans for Nigeria’s next qualifying matches against Tanzania in November, with the defeat in Bissau influencing his decisions on the players he intends to retain in the squad.

Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Tolu Arokodare are the three players who are likely to miss out on future invitations to the national team.

However, Onyemaechi’s situation remains uncertain, as the coach will make a final decision on the defender depending on the availability of other options he is considering for the upcoming fixtures.

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Raphael Onyedika is also facing the possibility of being dropped from the squad.

According to the report, Alhassan Yusuf is expected to be fit and available for the November matches, with Chelle reportedly viewing the midfielder as a better fit for his tactical system.

Yusuf’s performances during the Unity Cup tournament in June were said to have strengthened his position as a potential option for the coach.

The Super Eagles suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L fixture, a result that dealt a setback to their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.

The Nigerian side had started their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo but failed to maintain that momentum against Guinea-Bissau.

Chelle has now shifted his attention to the back-to-back encounters against Tanzania in November, with the coach expected to make adjustments as he seeks to improve the team’s performance.

According to the report, the possible exclusion of the three players forms part of the coach’s plans ahead of those crucial fixtures.
