Driver clocked at 129 mph in 65 mph zone in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A driver was clocked traveling over 60 mph over the posted speed limit on a Wichita interstate.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a Ford Mustang was stopped Friday morning on Interstate 235 near Southwest Boulevard.

The driver was going 129 mph. The posted speed limit on I-235 is 65 mph.

“We are glad our Sedgwick County Trooper was able to get this vehicle stopped before something bad happened,” KHP said on social media.

The driver was issued a ticket with a $815 fine, plus court costs.

Excessive speeding in Kansas is not an arrestable offense. A bill in the Kansas Legislature that would have made it into one died in committee this past legislative session, despite strong support from state law enforcement and transportation officials.
