Dr. Olivia Agyekumwaa Reveals Some Drugs That Causes Impotence In Men

Dr. Olivia Agyekumwaa, who oversees the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA) Tobacco and Substance Abuse Department, has cautioned men against abusing drugs, warning that such behaviour can have serious and lasting health consequences.

She identified tramadol, marijuana and cocaine as substances whose misuse may contribute to sexual health problems, including erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Agyekumwaa explained that some young men take these drugs in the hope of increasing their energy or enhancing their sexual stamina. She warned, however, that these expectations can be misleading and that continued use may harm their health.

She said drug abuse can interfere with the brain, nerves and blood vessels, which are necessary for normal sexual function. When these systems are affected, users may develop sexual difficulties that persist over time.

Beyond the physical consequences, she noted that erectile dysfunction linked to substance misuse can cause emotional distress. Men experiencing these problems may struggle with anxiety, embarrassment and relationship challenges, while some may also develop depression.

The FDA official encouraged young people to stay away from drug misuse and take the risks seriously. She added that the authority is working to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Dr. Agyekumwaa’s warning highlights the importance of protecting long-term health rather than seeking temporary pleasure or perceived improvements in physical and sexual performance.
