CM e-bikes scheme attracts over 1.3 million registrations in Punjab
LAHORE – The Punjab government’s CM E-Bikes Scheme has attracted more than 1.3 million registrations, while over 607,000 applications were received before the completion of the application process, according to an official statement. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to expedite the remaining formalities and complete the process at the earliest. Under the scheme, 100,000 successful applicants will receive electric bikes through a balloting process, with payments to be made in easy monthly instalments of Rs3,000. The provincial government will bear the entire interest cost on the provision of the bikes. The initiative is aimed at facilitating young people, particularly students, by providing them with an affordable means of transportation. The government expects the scheme to ease commuting difficulties and reduce travel expenses for beneficiaries. On the chief minister’s directives, successful female applicants will also be provided free driving training to help them use the bikes safely and independently. Maryam Nawaz said the government would provide all possible resources to enable young people, particularly female students, to pursue their education, progress and achieve their goals. She said electric bikes would make commuting easier for female students while helping them save on monthly expenses. “Every son and daughter of Punjab is very special to me,” she said. The scheme’s next stage will involve the balloting process to select the 100,000 beneficiaries from among the applicants. The government has yet to announce the date for the draw and the subsequent distribution schedule.
