Bungoma’s Ksh5.4 Billion Pending Bills Raise Questions Over County Finances

Former Khalaba Ward MCA Majimbo Okumu has raised concerns over Bungoma County’s financial situation, claiming that the county has accumulated Ksh5.4 billion in pending bills under Governor Kenneth Lusaka’s administration.

Okumu accused the county government of neglecting essential services, especially healthcare, while focusing on politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He described the county as being “in ICU,” arguing that residents were not receiving the services they deserved.

He also questioned why county workers were struggling to access healthcare, saying their welfare reflected the wider challenges facing the county.

The former MCA further criticised the administration for failing to implement the youth policy passed in 2023.

He said young people were yet to benefit fully from the policy, which was intended to guide their participation in development and help them access opportunities.

Okumu is supporting Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi’s bid for the Bungoma governorship in 2027.

He urged residents to back leadership that puts accountability and service delivery first.

Speaking during a meeting with supporters, Wanyonyi said he was ready to serve Bungoma residents and lay a strong foundation for sustainable development.

He pledged to make all county government sectors functional and ensure residents benefit from better services.

Wanyonyi also promised to support the operationalisation of the Ndengelwa rescue centre to protect victims of gender-based violence and help survivors access the support they need.

On the political front, the MP said his campaign was open to people from different sides of the political divide.

He welcomed support from both the Tutam and Wantam camps, saying he was ready to work with anyone committed to Bungoma’s development.

Wanyonyi also declared his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions and urged residents of Western Kenya to back him.
