Bournemouth have trick up their sleeve that could force Chelsea to pay £100m for Alex Scott
According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, Bournemouth are reportedly considering a new contract for Alex Scott that could include a £100 million release clause, potentially increasing Chelsea’s cost of signing the midfielder in January.
Chelsea are prioritising a move for the Bournemouth star as manager Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his midfield following Enzo Fernandez’s departure to Manchester City.
Fernandez left Stamford Bridge during the closing hours of the summer transfer window, but Chelsea failed to secure a replacement despite making a late attempt to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.
Scott has since emerged as a leading target, with reports suggesting the England international is interested in joining Chelsea.
The prospect of playing alongside Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers could also appeal to the midfielder.
However, Bournemouth are determined to protect their interests and could offer Scott a new deal containing a release clause worth up to £100 million, according to TeamTalk.
The Cherries previously adopted a similar strategy with Antoine Semenyo before the Ghanaian forward joined Manchester City after the Premier League champions activated his release clause.
Bournemouth reportedly believe Scott could command a comparable fee following several expensive midfield transfers, including those involving Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Fernandez.
Former England striker Alan Shearer has also backed Scott to become the Premier League’s next £100 million player, reflecting his growing reputation.
Chelsea remain interested in the midfielder despite Jordan Henderson’s impressive display in their 5-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Alonso is understood to want additional options capable of strengthening his team’s midfield over the long term.
Scott missed the encounter after suffering a muscle injury during England’s 7-0 win over Croatia.
His current contract expires in June 2028, leaving Bournemouth facing a decision over whether to negotiate an extension or consider offers for the player.
It remains uncertain whether Bournemouth would entertain a January sale or successfully agree a new contract with Scott.
