A British Airways flight was forced to turn back to London Gatwick after declaring a mid-air emergency following reports of a cracked window.

Flight BA2660 was heading to Faro, Portugal, on Tuesday morning when the Airbus A321-231 abandoned its journey and returned to the UK.

Flight-tracking data showed the aircraft making a sharp U-turn shortly after passing over Brittany, France.

Flight-tracking service AirNav Radar reported that the BA Euroflyer service had declared an emergency and was diverting back to Gatwick airport.

They wrote on X: “A passenger window is cracked.

“Flight deck going through checks before deciding were to divert.”

It has not yet been confirmed what caused the emergency.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: “The aircraft diverted following a minor technical issue and landed safely back at London Gatwick. We have apologised to customers for the delay to their journey, and our teams are working hard to get their travel plans back on track.”

London Gatwick has been contacted for comment.
