Dias currently plays for Athletico Paranaense in Brazil’s top-flight and his valuation is estimated at around €12 million ($13.4 million), but the number will only get higher as he continues to perform.

Other big European clubs are also keeping tabs on Dias’s development as he continues to emerge as one of the most highly regarded young center backs in the sport. Still, Barcelona view him as an ideal long term reinforcement capable of fighting Gerard Martín to become Pau Cubarsí’s partner in the heart of defense.

He made his senior debut on July 27, 2025 and featured in 18 total games the rest of the season, helping the club secure its promotion to the Brazilian Serie A. At the same time, he was part of the Brazil side that won the CONMEBOL U–20 Championship in 2025.

But Dias’s true breakout unfolded in 2026. The young defender has started 28 of Paranaense’s 30 league matches this season and the newly-promoted side currently sits third in the standings, fighting to qualify for the Copa Libertadores with just eight games left in the campaign.

Dias’s fantastic season was rewarded only weeks ago when Carlo Ancelotti included him in Brazil’s roster for the September-October international window. The teenager made his senior Seleção debut in a friendly against Australia and then started alongside Marquinhos in the 4–0 win against India.

Standing at 6'5", Dias is an imposing physical presence, but he’s also confident on the ball and does well in the build up. Perhaps more importantly from Barcelona’s standpoint, he’s left-footed, and world class center backs of that profile—which is exactly what Hansi Flick needs—are scarce in world soccer, and the ones that do exist are expensive.

“We are working on identifying profiles that have these characteristics, like the ones Arthur Dias has,” Amaral said in The Pitch Invaders podcast. “A fast player with a great relationship with the ball. That’s the profile of center back we’re looking for to reinforce the club.”

Amaral revealed he has a stellar working relationship with Dias while also disclosing an important trait when it comes to Flick’s talent evaluation. “Flick doesn’t look at a player’s age; he looks at their skills and qualities.”

“Every player thinks of one day playing in the Champions League,” Dias said, via Sport. “Of being able to play in a very giant championship. Nevertheless, right now I’m very focused and concentrated in Athletico. These things I leave to my agent.”

Dias added: “I’m very happy that there are clubs interested in me. That means I’m doing good work on the pitch, but I always say that I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my teammates and coaches. Of course my desire is to win titles and grow, but I’m very happy here.”

Barcelona haven’t addressed the center back position since the start of the Flick era, but that could soon change in upcoming transfer windows now that the club has publicly expressed their interest in Dias.
