40 Out of the 1,300 Missing ECG Containers Found – See Who Stole the ECG Transformers
A major development has emerged in the investigation into more than 1,300 ECG containers that reportedly went missing, with National Security said to have found 40 of them inside a warehouse at Kpone.
The containers reportedly contained important electrical equipment meant to help the Electricity Company of Ghana improve and expand its distribution network. Their disappearance had raised concerns across the country, particularly as authorities had yet to establish exactly how the units went missing.
Energy Minister John Jinapor confirmed that the 40 containers had been recovered and said the discovery was being treated as part of an ongoing investigation. The warehouse where they were found is reportedly linked to an Indian businessman, who has maintained that he bought the containers through legitimate means in the previous year.
Jinapor indicated that the recovery of the 40 units was only one step in the investigation, stressing that authorities would continue searching for the rest and take action against anyone found to have played a role in the disappearance.
The case has triggered public debate over the security and management of government property. Many Ghanaians are questioning how more than 1,300 containers containing valuable equipment could disappear without raising immediate alarms.
The missing materials were reportedly needed for ECG projects aimed at improving electricity distribution. Their absence has allegedly slowed some initiatives and added to concerns over power supply, while the discovery of some of the containers in a private warehouse has heightened suspicion of possible malpractice.
People in Kpone have reacted strongly to the development. Kwame Mensah, a resident, expressed anger over the reported loss of state property, particularly as citizens continue to deal with power outages.
Authorities are expected to widen the investigation as they work to determine where the remaining containers are and how the equipment ended up outside its intended government channel. The recovered units could provide investigators with valuable information as they seek to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case.
