2 women escape corrections facility in Canton

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – A search is underway for two women who escaped from a Stark County corrections facility on Monday.

Warrants have been issued for inmates Hope Skerrett and Kerriah Ohler.

Canton police were called to Stark Regional Community Correctional Center Monday around 7:15 p.m. for a report of an escape.

Investigators determined the women had exited a door on the building’s southeast side before running into a nearby nature preserve.

A pair of white tennis shoes was found near the building. Officers also found additional dark-colored clothing in the preserve, according to the report.

One woman was wearing all black, and the other was wearing a gray sweatshirt and black pants, police said.

The police report stated that the women had allegedly planned to escape and meet someone near a Walmart on U.S. Route 62 before traveling to Florida.

FOX 8 has contacted police to learn more about the women’s criminal backgrounds.
