14 times Princess Diana matched with Princes William and Harry – including ‘bizarre’ ’80s outfits

LEAVE A COMMENT Princess Diana was a true style icon, remembered as one of the best-dressed women in history. She was known for her fashion-forward outfits and on-trend looks, from her black, off-the-shoulder Christina Stambolian number dubbed the 'revenge dress' to her pale blue, sequined mini dress she wore in 1997, in what was one of her last high-profile appearances.

But perhaps some of her most memorable – and endearing – looks were when she coordinated with her young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. In 2017, the brothers opened up about their mum in a documentary to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death.

Harry poked fun at his mother's decision to dress them in "bizarre" outfits, saying: "I genuinely think she got satisfaction out of dressing myself and William up in the most bizarre outfits – normally matching. It was weird shorts and little shiny shoes with the old clip-on. Looking back at the photos it just makes me laugh and I think, 'How could you do that to us?'

"And funnily enough we got to the age when William would turn around and go, 'This is ridiculous, I'm the older brother. Why do I have to be dressed the same as him?' And I'm sort of thinking, 'Hang on a second, if you're going to dress differently, I'm not going to be the only person dressed like this. This is ridiculous!'"

Diana looked incredibly stylish in her pale blue Catherine Walker coat, while a young William was just as smart in his mini boys' version – and no outfit is complete without those shiny black shoes!

Pictured on another occasion, Harry wore the same blue coat as his big brother William, this time keeping warm with knee-high socks and white gloves. Naw!

Just like Princess Catherine often matches with her older children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Diana loved coordinating with her adorable sons. This is one of our favourite looks, when Diana matched with Harry in striking green at Trooping the Colour.

One of our favourite throwback photos, William and Harry are identical in pale yellow shorts and white jumpers. And look at those socks and shiny shoes!

White shirts, green shorts and navy jackets – you could only tell William and Harry apart by their height difference.

William matched his baby brother Harry in a classic blue-and-white outfit. The future King and his wife Catherine were clearly inspired, dressing their son George in a very similar look some 30 years later.

Perhaps this was the age when William started to protest, wearing the same black and red colours as his brother Harry, but not completely identical outfits.

William and Harry were working on their royal waves from a young age, while looking adorable in white polo shirts tucked into blue shorts.
