Yinka Quadri Reveals Why Yoruba Actors Support Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid
According to a report by Vanguard on October 12, 2026, veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has explained his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing the president’s financial assistance to entertainers and his administration’s infrastructure projects.
Speaking on the African A-List programme, Quadri recalled how Tinubu supported members of the entertainment industry during his time as governor of Lagos State. He said these experiences influenced his decision to continue supporting the president.
The actor cited the late Nollywood star Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, as one of the entertainers who received assistance from Tinubu. According to Quadri, the president helped pay Baba Suwe’s hospital bills while the actor was battling an illness.
Quadri also recalled the financial assistance Tinubu provided following the death of actress Moji Olaiya in Canada in 2017.
He said he joined Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi and other colleagues in visiting Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos, to request money to bring Olaiya’s remains back to Nigeria.
According to Quadri, the group initially needed $15,000, but Tinubu provided $25,000 to cover the arrangements.
“People do not understand it. It is not about what we want to eat. He has been taking care of those of us in the industry since he was the governor of Lagos,” Quadri said.
Beyond his personal experiences, Quadri identified road construction in the South-West as another reason for backing Tinubu’s re-election. He mentioned the Papalanto-Sagamu road and the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode route, while acknowledging that the region still needed further infrastructure development.
“I know it is not enough, but I praise him,” he said.
The actor also pointed to pension payments to retirees and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as initiatives he viewed positively under the Tinubu administration.
Quadri’s endorsement comes ahead of the 2027 general election. He had also publicly supported Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election, joining fellow Yoruba actors Jide Kosoko, Fausat Balogun, Taiwo Hassan and Femi Adebayo in backing the then presidential candidate.
