Wontumi Is Not Well And Needs Pardon From Our Compassionate,Humble President John Mahama—Peter

Ghanaian social commentator Peter Tawiah has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider granting amnesty to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on health grounds.

In a Facebook post, Tawiah argued that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deserves compassion and a possible pardon, citing concerns about his health and urging the president to consider his situation from a humanitarian perspective.

Tawiah made the appeal after reviewing comments from social media users discussing Wontumi, saying the reactions prompted him to question whether people were showing enough compassion towards fellow human beings.

He drew comparisons with Abuga Pele, whom he referenced in arguing that Wontumi should also be considered for leniency on health grounds.

The commentator further cited previous presidents, including the late Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he said had granted amnesty to political prisoners during their respective administrations.

According to Tawiah, President Mahama could similarly consider extending clemency to Wontumi despite any offences he may have committed against the state.

He described Mahama as a compassionate and sympathetic leader who, in his view, could take a humanitarian approach to the matter.

Tawiah also questioned the apparent lack of sympathy expressed by some social media users, asking whether Christians and Muslims were demonstrating the compassion their respective faiths encourage.

“Can’t we have compassion for fellow humans?” he asked, appealing to the public to show greater understanding towards people facing difficult circumstances.

His comments add to the public discussion surrounding Wontumi and calls for compassion in dealing with individuals facing legal difficulties.
