Who is Likely to Win the Embu Gubernatorial Race According to the Latest Opinion Poll

The Embu gubernatorial race is gaining momentum as the clock ticks towards the next General Election. The frontrunners in the race are the incumbent Governor Cecily Mbarire and Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji.

According to an opinion poll released by Swiss Poll International on Monday, October 12, 2026, Mbarire is leading the race with 41%. Mukunji is second with 31%, while the remaining 28% comprises undecided voters and supporters of other candidates.

Cecily is contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, the party under which she was elected in 2022. She currently serves as the party’s chairperson and is drumming up support for President William Ruto in Embu.

On the other hand, Mukunji is an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He is therefore expected to run on Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket. Mukunji is the only MP from Embu who is openly supporting Gachagua.

Because Embu is one of the Mt Kenya counties considered battlegrounds, the gubernatorial race is likely to be tough.
