A 55-year-old Welkom educator was allegedly forcibly abducted by unknown suspects under mysterious circumstances, with police investigating a case of carjacking and kidnapping.

Gert Adams reportedly contacted his wife by phone at about 11.30pm on Sunday, October 4, shortly before the call was abruptly cut off. He was subsequently reported missing.

Free State police spokesperson Sgt Palesa Thabana said Adams’s grey Hyundai IX35 was found abandoned in Klippan, Welkom, on Tuesday.

His cellphone and other belongings were found inside the vehicle.

Adams’s whereabouts remain unknown, and police have not established a motive for the alleged kidnapping.

Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the case and searching for Adams and the suspected perpetrators.
