Veteran Yoruba Actor Yinka Quadri Hails Tinubu Longstanding Help To Entertainers

According To Punch Newspaper On Monday 12th October, 2026, Veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has explained why he and other practitioners in the Nigerian film industry are supporting President Bola Tinubu re-election bid, citing the President longstanding financial assistance to entertainers and his contributions to infrastructure development.

Quadri said the support for Tinubu was not solely motivated by personal benefits but was also based on the President history of assisting members of the entertainment industry, dating back to his tenure as governor of Lagos State. The veteran actor made the remarks during an interview on the African A List programme, which was uploaded on Saturday and seen by our correspondent on Monday.

During the interview, Quadri recalled how Tinubu reportedly intervened to assist late Nollywood actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, when he was battling an illness. According to Quadri, the President paid the hospital bills of the late comic actor, an action he said demonstrated Tinubu willingness to support entertainers during difficult times.

Quadri comments come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political figures and supporters beginning to mobilise support for candidates seeking elective offices. The actor maintained that Tinubu relationship with members of the entertainment industry had developed over the years, adding that such gestures were among the reasons some practitioners were backing his second term ambition.

Beyond his assistance to entertainers, Quadri also pointed to infrastructure development as another factor influencing his support for the President. He suggested that Tinubu record in this area had contributed to the decision by some people in the creative industry to support his re-election campaign.

Tinubu, who assumed office as Nigeria President in May 2023, is expected to face political competition as parties and aspirants prepare for the next general elections scheduled for 2027. The entertainment industry has historically attracted political attention because of the influence actors, musicians and other public figures can have on public discussions and campaign activities.

Quadri remarks add to the growing number of public endorsements ahead of the next election, although support for political candidates within the entertainment industry remains a matter of individual choice. The actor account of Tinubu assistance to Baba Suwe highlights the role personal relationships and past interventions can play in shaping political support among entertainers.
