A white cargo van was behind the scooter, traveling east on Okeechobee Road, Maj. Michael Santiago told WPBF's Angela Rozier at a briefing Monday afternoon. The van driver fled the scene and made a U-turn to drive in the wrong direction across the median on Okeechobee Road, but he crashed into the side of a building, the Kings & Queens Unisex Salon. The man then ran from the scene.
A second vehicle, a Toyota pickup truck, was also struck, but no one was injured.
Police were unable to locate the suspect despite aerial and K-9 units.
