Picture: Mlungisi Mhlophe-Gumede Two alleged instigators linked to unrest in Durban last week were granted R1,000 bail each on Monday.
Siphelele âMagolideâ Shinga and Malizo Dzanibe face charges of inciting public violence, contravening the Road Traffic Act, carrying a dangerous weapon and failure to comply with police instructions.
Police arrested Shinga after threats that he and his followers would âshut downâ the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The men are allegedly key mobilisers linked to the violence, looting and torching of buildings and cars in Durban last week.
They were represented in court by Andile Zuma, who together with his wife Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, founded March and March.
Shinga told the court that he has four children and is employed as an occupational nurse, earning R15,000 per month.
Dzanibe has six children and is unemployed.
The organisation paid bail for the two men.
Their co-accused, Wandile Nsibande, who also faces the same charges and was arrested with Shinga, was remanded in custody until Friday for his bail application.
Senior prosecutor Roshiela Benimadho said Nsimande was out on parole. He was sentenced to 25 yearsâ imprisonment previously for kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
He also has a pending case of assault in Eshowe.
Speaking after magistrate Sicelo Zuma adjourned the case to Friday, Ngobese-Zuma said it was a âfair hearingâ.
She claimed, however, that Nsimande was falsely accused of being an instigator. She said he had openly talked about his past and his rehabilitation, and was en-route to assist in a kidnapping matter. Ngobese-Zuma said he had willingly gone into the police van with Shinga.
Zuma rolled over proceedings until Friday when all three are expected back in court.
Meanwhile, outside the Durban magistrateâs court, public order police were out in numbers monitoring the court situation, where 15 people, who were arrested for public violence after the unrest on Friday, also appeared.
