Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has shut down more than 25 buildings, including a Mobil filling station, along Ago Palace Way in Okota, Lagos, over alleged environmental offences.
The enforcement exercise, conducted on Sunday, also targeted heaps of refuse dumped on road medians and around bridge abutments, where the authority said indiscriminate waste disposal had become a persistent concern.
LAWMA Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, led the operation, which deployed compactor trucks, a payloader, tipper trucks and street sweepers to clear the affected areas.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has expressed sorrow over the death of a former Corps Marshal Dauda Biu, describing his death as a painful loss to the Corps, the road safety community and Nigeria.
In a condolence message on its X handle on Monday, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said late Biu was a distinguished officer whose career reflected dedication, discipline and commitment to public service.
Biu served as the seventh substantive Corps Marshal of the FRSC from July 2022 to May 2024.
During his tenure, he contributed to road safety administration, operational effectiveness, and institutional development.
Mohammed noted that the deceased’s contributions remained part of the Corps’ legacy, describing him as a seasoned professional who devoted a significant part of his life to serving humanity and promoting road safety in Nigeria.
Lawyer and actor Kenneth Okonkwo has accused Taiwo Oyedele of lying over the Federal Government’s 30-day petrol discount policy, insisting that the intervention amounts to a form of fuel subsidy.
Okonkwo made the allegation during a discussion on Channels Television, where he questioned the government’s decision to describe the temporary reduction in petrol prices as a discount rather than a subsidy.
Speaking during the programme, Okonkwo argued that the policy met the definition of a subsidy because it was designed to reduce the cost of petrol and provide relief to Nigerians.
He said, “Now, what is subsidy? Subsidy is defined as a financial aid or support typically provided by a government or organisation and given to an individual or business or institution or industry to reduce cost or promote social or economic goals.”
