“Tinubu Has Been Taking Care Of Nollywood Actors Since He Was The Governor Of Lagos State–Quadri
According to a report by The Cable, on Monday, October 12, 2026, Seasoned Yoruba screen star Yinka Quadri has lauded President Bola Tinubu, crediting him with a record of generosity toward colleagues in Nollywood who have fallen on hard times.
Quadri shared his views while chatting with African A List. He told the programme that the president has repeatedly stepped forward when performers faced sickness, grief or money worries, and he described this habit as one that stretches back many years.
In his telling, the practice started when Tinubu governed Lagos State, long before he occupied the nation’s highest office. Quadri recalled that actors who could not cope with hefty medical bills found a sympathetic ear in the then governor.
His main example was the late comedian Babatunde Omidina, widely known as Baba Suwe, a beloved figure in Yoruba-language films. When the performer’s health deteriorated, Quadri said, Tinubu covered the cost of his care, both at home in Lagos and in hospitals overseas.
Quadri argued that such gestures meant a great deal to entertainers, since a serious illness can swallow a family’s savings, particularly when treatment requires travel abroad. He suggested the help went beyond professional concerns and reached into the private struggles of those in the industry.
The actor said: “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been taking care of Nollywood actors since he was the governor of Lagos state. When Baba Suwe was sick, Asiwaju settled all the hospital bills in Lagos and abroad.”
His account offers a glimpse of how some in the creative community view their relationship with political leaders, though it rests on Quadri’s personal recollection. The claims have not been independently verified, and no reaction from the president’s office was included in the report.
