Prince Yadav Reveals Abhishek Sharma’s Bat Helped Him Smash Three Fours in India’s Win Over West Indies
Prince scored 13 off just six deliveries, striking three boundaries in the final over bowled by Shamar Joseph. His contribution, along with Arshdeep Singh’s 11 off eight balls, helped India finish strongly in their 20 overs.
Prince also played a useful role with the ball, conceding 20 runs in his two overs during the death phase as India secured a 14-run victory.
Speaking to BCCI.tv after the match in a conversation with Abhishek, Prince said the opener had handed him the bat with a playful warning not to let it down.
“Abhi bhaiya gave me his bat earlier and said, ‘Don’t embarrass the bat’. So, I kept its honour,” Prince said, expressing satisfaction at contributing to the team with both bat and ball.
Abhishek, in turn, praised Prince’s power-hitting ability, saying the fast bowler was already known in Delhi for his performances in informal one-on-one cricket contests, where players have to bat and bowl.
“He has that talent to hit sixes and fours. We saw a bit of it today, and we’ll see more in future,” Abhishek said, adding that power was also essential for making the most of the bat.
Prince disclosed that he had previously used Abhishek’s bat in Ireland, where he had struck a six. After hitting boundaries with it in Indore as well, he said he intended to borrow the opener’s willow again.
Abhishek readily agreed, replying, “Granted.”
India captain Shreyas Iyer also appreciated Prince’s late contribution, saying the useful runs helped the team reach a competitive total.
The 14-run victory highlighted the importance of India’s lower-order contributions in building a total that proved difficult for the West Indies to chase.
