Prepare For Heavy Rains In The Next 24 Hours If You Live In The Following Areas
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a 24-hour weather alert warning residents in several parts of the country to prepare for moderate to heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms and strong winds.
In a notice published on Monday, October 12, the meteorological authority said the rainfall warning would remain in effect until 9 PM on Tuesday, October 13, urging residents to remain alert and take precautions against possible weather-related risks.
Bungoma, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia and Nandi counties are among the areas expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall during the forecast period.
The department also warned that isolated storms could occur in parts of the affected counties, raising concerns over the risks associated with thunderstorms and possible flooding.
Residents were advised to avoid seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to stay away from flooded roads, waterways and low-lying areas.
The authority cautioned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to cross flooded sections of roads, noting the dangers posed by moving water. It also urged the public to avoid outdoor activities during heavy storms and to follow official weather updates for any changes to the forecast.
Beyond the western region, the department’s broader weather outlook indicated that rainfall was expected in several other counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Nairobi, Nakuru and Kisumu.
The forecast also highlighted strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to approximately 46 kilometres per hour, in parts of Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Tana River counties.
Residents in the affected areas were encouraged to take the warning seriously and make appropriate preparations ahead of the anticipated weather conditions.
The advisory comes as the country experiences changing weather patterns, with the meteorological department continuing to issue forecasts to help Kenyans prepare for rainfall and other potentially hazardous conditions.
Members of the public were urged to monitor updates through the Kenya Meteorological Department’s official communication channels and act early where necessary to protect lives and property.
