Paul Pogba sends clear message to Man United over Michael Carrick

According to a report by Metro on Monday, 12 October 2026, Paul Pogba has urged Manchester United to give manager Michael Carrick more time, insisting that the club can recover from their disappointing start to the season.

United have won just one of their opening six Premier League matches and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Brighton, increasing the pressure on Carrick during his first full season in charge.

Their only league victory came against Ipswich Town, while dropped points against Hull City, Everton, Manchester City, Fulham and Tottenham have added to concerns about the team’s performances.

United’s latest setback came in a 1-1 draw against Tottenham at Old Trafford. Despite having a numerical advantage following Rodrigo Bentancur’s dismissal, Carrick’s side conceded a late equaliser and failed to secure all three points.

However, Pogba, who played alongside Carrick at United before working under him as a coach, believes it is too early to judge the manager’s performance.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former France international said: “It’s just the start of the season, there’s nothing much to say, it’s just the start of the season and the season is very long.”

Pogba also pointed to Carrick’s previous impact at the club, arguing that expectations had changed following the team’s recent results.

“He showed last season when he came, everybody said he was the manager that will change everything. Now that the results don’t come they say maybe he’s too young.”

The midfielder added: “One day or the other it can change a lot, they just have to give them time and it will be fine.”

Pogba’s comments come as Carrick attempts to improve United’s consistency and deliver better results in the coming weeks. The manager faces growing scrutiny as the club seek to turn their early-season struggles around.

Meanwhile, Pogba remains without a club after his contract with Monaco was mutually terminated in August. The 33-year-old made just six appearances during an injury-affected spell with the French side.

The former United midfielder also addressed Manchester City’s ongoing financial case while speaking at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Reflecting on the potential consequences for the Premier League title race, Pogba said: “I just hope it’s not going to affect the Premier League and hopefully we can get two titles.”
