Only Son Of Zimbabwean Billionaire, See Him Here
Masiyiwa was born on January 29, 1961 in Zimbabwe. His mother was an entrepreneur in a variety of fields, including retail, small-scale farming, and transportation, and his father worked in the mining industry before transitioning into the business world. Both of his parents were successful businesspeople in their own right. In 1968, Masiyiwa and his family uprooted themselves and moved away from their homeland due to the uncertain political climate there. They made their home at Kitwe, which is situated in the middle of Northern Zambia. When Masiyiwa was 12 years old, his parents gave him their blessing to attend a private school in Edinburgh, Scotland, so that he could advance his education there. They did this so that he could pursue a career in the arts.
Soon after he was awarded his graduation in 1978, he packed his belongings and moved to Zimbabwe, where he joined a band of insurgents fighting against the government there. However, a senior officer stated that the war was almost over and that in order for the country to recover from the war, it required soldiers like him. The officer also stated that the war was almost over. In 1983, Masiyiwa pursued his education at the University of Wales in order to earn a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. This decision came about as a result of a recommendation from an officer.
Masiyiwa worked in the computer industry in Cambridge, England, for the calendar year leading up to his return to Zimbabwe in 1984. During that time, he lived in Cambridge for the previous year. He started out in his career working for the Zimbabwe Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (ZPTC) as an Assistant Chief Engineer. Over the course of his time there, he worked his way up to the position of Chief Engineer. In 1988, Masiwa handed in his resignation from his post as a result of his dissatisfaction with the heavy bureaucracy of the ZPTC.
Masiyiwa founded Econet Wireless in the year 1990 after gaining financial backing and realizing the potential of the wireless business in sub-Saharan Africa. Both the Zimbabwean government, which has demanded bribes and the ZPTC, which maintains that it has a monopoly on the telecoms industry, are opposed to the initiative. The Zimbabwean government has also asked for bribes. After a drawn-out legal battle, Econet, Masiba’s company, was granted permission to run as a mobile phone service provider in Zimbabwe. This victory came after Econet had been fighting for the right to do so. Later on, Econet expanded its activities to include countries in Africa, in addition to New Zealand and the United Kingdom, where it had previously been operating. In the end, Masiyiwa was successful in finding employment with the privately held company Liquid Telecom Group, which has its main office in London. In Africa, this company dominates the market as a top provider of satellite and fiber optic services. In the year 2018, Masiyiwa became the first billionaire in Zimbabwe. Two years later, in 2020, he was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of Netflix, making him the first African-American to do so.
The well-known philanthropist Masiyiwa and his wife, who was formerly known as Chichi Maramba, founded the Capernaum Trust with the intention of providing assistance to orphans and young people in Africa who come from poor circumstances. In addition to this, he is a participant in the Giving Pledge, which is a charitable organization that was initially founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Masiyiwa is an advocate for a variety of different health issues, some of which include AIDS and cervical cancer. Specifically, she is working to raise awareness about these issues. He is currently serving as the co-chairman of Grow Africa and was instrumental in the effort to raise $15 billion for African agriculture. Grow Africa is an organization that aims to improve agricultural conditions in Africa. Students from Africa are given the opportunity to receive an education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, thanks to the Masiyiwa Ambassador Andrew Young Scholarship. The Freedom Award was given to her by the International Rescue Commission in the year 2015 in recognition of her efforts to assist refugees and promote human dignity, human freedom, and liberty. This honor was bestowed upon her in recognition of her work.
