ODM Breaks Silence on Oburu Oginga’s Health Amid Concerns
.Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has eased concerns over party leader Oburu Oginga’s health, assuring Kenyans that the veteran politician is making a steady recovery after falling ill.
Omanyo dismissed claims that Oburu’s condition was worsening, insisting that he was recuperating well and following medical advice.Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Monday, October 12, 2026, she condemned reports she described as misleading and urged Kenyans to avoid spreading unverified information about the Siaya senator.
She explained that Oburu had been unwell but was now recovering.
She added that his age made it necessary for him to get enough rest and follow his doctors’ instructions before resuming his normal activities.
According to Omanyo, the ODM leader’s absence from public events should not be taken as proof that his health was deteriorating. She maintained that he did not need to appear on television every day to demonstrate that he was doing well.
Her remarks follow growing speculation about Oburu’s health after he missed several public engagements. His absence prompted discussions on social media, with some supporters expressing concern about his condition.
Omanyo appealed to Kenyans to exercise patience and compassion as the veteran politician continues his recovery. The also encouraged the public to pray for him instead of circulating reports that could cause unnecessary fear among his family, colleagues and supporters.
President William Ruto had earlier addressed the issue while speaking in Bondo on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during the handover of the mausoleum of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Ruto disclosed that Oburu was attending to medical matters but reaffirmed his position as ODM party leader and chairman, saying the veteran politician continued to command respect.
On Tuesday, October 6, Oburu’s secretariat also rejected reports circulating on social media about his health.
The office stated that he was safe and in good spirits while observing doctors’ instructions to rest and reduce his public engagements.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga had similarly indicated that Oburu was recovering steadily after visiting him.
The latest assurance is likely to comfort ODM supporters concerned about the senator’s wellbeing.
Party officials have urged Kenyans to seek credible updates and disregard unverified claims as Oburu continues recuperating.
