NPP Gives Strong Warning to Parliamentary Aspirants
Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary candidates to halt their campaign activities until further notice, warning that anyone who breaches the instruction could face disciplinary action.
The directive applies to aspirants preparing to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries, including their campaign coordinators, agents and supporters. It follows reports that some individuals have begun soliciting endorsements and mobilising support in their constituencies before the official campaign period begins.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the activities violated its internal regulations and Code of Conduct.
The NPP expressed concern that premature campaigning could undermine equal opportunities for aspirants and create divisions within the party. It emphasised the need to maintain discipline and fairness throughout the candidate selection process.
As part of the restrictions, prospective candidates and their supporters are prohibited from displaying posters, billboards, banners and other materials promoting their parliamentary ambitions. They are also barred from organising rallies, conducting constituency visits for campaign purposes or approaching polling station executives to solicit support.
Additionally, party officials at polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels have been warned against using social media platforms to endorse or promote prospective parliamentary candidates. Members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) are equally expected to comply.
According to the party, individuals who disregard the directive risk sanctions that could affect their participation in the parliamentary primaries.
The NPP stated that the official timetable and guidelines for the selection exercise would be announced at a later date.
Constituency and regional executives have been instructed to monitor compliance and ensure that members within their jurisdictions observe the restrictions.
The party has urged all aspirants and their supporters to exercise restraint and await the formal announcement of the electoral process, stressing that adherence to the rules is necessary for an orderly and credible contest.
