No arrests made after deadly shooting on I-71 shut down highway for hours
A shooting on Interstate 71 near the Norwood Lateral late Saturday night left one teen dead, two others injured, and police searching for suspects.
The incident occurred in the northbound lanes around 11 p.m. as the BLINK festival was ending. According to police radio transmissions, two cars were involved in a chase, with occupants shooting at each other. One of the cars, a Nissan Altima, eventually crashed.
Officers arriving at the scene found three teens inside the vehicle. Nineteen-year-old Amarion Waver was pronounced dead on the highway. An 18-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries, while another 19-year-old is expected to recover. Both injured individuals are being treated at UC Medical Center.
"We do have a firearm recovery out here on scene, at least one. So we believe that, uh, it's possibly shot. So we've got two firearms here," an officer said over the police radio.
Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Cincinnati Police Department's homicide unit.
