NNPCL Slashes Petrol Price By ₦35 Per Litre After Weekend Hike
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the price of petrol at its filling stations in Abuja to ₦1,370 per litre, following a hike over the weekend.
According to a report by Daily Post on October 12, 2026, the state-owned oil company reversed its recent price adjustment, cutting the pump price from ₦1,405 to ₦1,370 per litre.
The latest reduction represents a decrease of ₦35 per litre, restoring the price to the level previously charged by the company.
A market survey conducted on Monday showed that NNPCL outlets in Berger, Wuse Zone 6 and Wuse Zone 4 in Abuja were selling petrol at the revised rate of ₦1,370 per litre.
The adjustment comes as the company continues its petrol discount programme, which offers a reduction of ₦66 per litre to motorists who purchase fuel through its recently introduced mobile application.
Meanwhile, MRS and other filling stations have also adjusted their petrol prices amid ongoing changes in the country’s downstream petroleum market.
The development follows a proposal by the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, last Thursday, suggesting that petrol at NNPCL filling stations should be sold at a fixed price of ₦1,350 per litre.
The proposal sparked reactions, with some observers describing the arrangement as a possible return to fuel subsidy; However, Oyedele and the Presidency dismissed the interpretation, insisting that the measure was a discount rather than a subsidy.
NNPCL’s latest price reduction comes amid continued changes in petrol prices, with motorists keeping a close watch on adjustments by major fuel retailers across the country.
