NNPCL Reduces Petrol Price After Weekend Increase at Filling Stations
According to Daily Post Nigeria, published on October 12, 2026, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reversed its weekend petrol price increase, lowering the cost of fuel at some of its filling stations in Abuja.
The latest adjustment followed a rise in the companyâs pump price over the weekend. According to the report, NNPCL had increased its petrol price to N1,405 per litre before bringing it back down to its previous rate on Monday.
A market survey by Daily Post found that motorists could buy petrol at NNPCL stations in Berger, Wuse Zone 6 and Wuse Zone 4 for N1,370 per litre. The reduction represents a difference of N35 per litre compared with the price charged during the weekend.
The development comes at a time when petrol prices at other filling stations have also been changing. Daily Post reported that MRS and other petrol retailers had increased their pump prices, making NNPCLâs latest adjustment another development for motorists to follow.
The report also highlighted a discount of N66 per litre offered by NNPCL to motorists using its recently introduced application. However, the discount is subject to the companyâs stated conditions, and the report does not provide further details about its eligibility requirements.
The latest price adjustment also comes amid discussions about the cost of petrol at NNPCL stations. Last Thursday, Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele proposed a fixed petrol price of N1,350 per litre at the companyâs outlets.
The proposal generated debate, with some describing it as a possible return to fuel subsidy. Oyedele and the Presidency, however, rejected that interpretation, maintaining that the measure was a discount rather than a subsidy.
For motorists in Abuja, the latest reduction means petrol at the surveyed NNPCL stations has returned to its previous price after the weekend increase. The report does not establish whether the adjustment will apply to all NNPCL stations nationwide or whether further price changes are expected.
