A missing juvenile was safely located, a stolen firearm was recovered, and a suspect was arrested following a late-night investigation by the Adams County Sheriffβs Office on October 11, 2026.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, deputies responded to a residence on Duck Pond Road regarding a missing juvenile female. After gathering information from family members, deputies began investigating her disappearance, checking possible locations and notifying surrounding law enforcement personnel to be on the lookout.
At approximately 12:50 p.m. that same day, an alert ACSO patrol deputy observed a red Chevrolet Camaro stopped along Lower Woodville Road. While checking on the vehicle and its occupants, the deputy recognized the passenger as the juvenile who had been reported missing earlier that morning.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, 23-year-old Cortez Hunt of Brookhaven, Mississippi, had reportedly picked up the juvenile in Brookhaven and transported her back to Adams County.
During the investigation, deputies received information about a firearm inside the vehicle. A handgun was subsequently recovered from a backpack and confirmed through law enforcement databases to have been reported stolen.
Hunt was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm. He was transported to the Adams County Jail without incident.
The juvenile was safely recovered and transported to the appropriate juvenile facility.
Sheriff Travis Patten praised the coordinated efforts of the Patrol Division and Investigative Unit, emphasizing that their attention to detail, communication, and proactive policing were instrumental in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
