Miracles Aboagye Reacts To The Appointment Of Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah At EC

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reacted to the appointment of Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

He took to his official Facebook page on October 12, 2026, to express his displeasure at the development, which was first reported by JoyNews earlier the same day.

According to the report, Dr Asamoah, a former Finance Director at the Electoral Commission and a law lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been named to the deputy chair position.

In his post, Mr Aboagye wrote: “So the NDC has just appointed the NDC manifesto Spokesperson as a Deputy EC Chairperson… Vhim!!”

His comment suggests that he sees the appointee as having close ties to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly through his reported role as a spokesperson on the party’s manifesto. The reaction reflects the NPP’s concern about the perceived political leanings of persons appointed to sensitive positions within the country’s electoral management body.

The Electoral Commission is the constitutionally mandated body responsible for organising and supervising public elections and referenda in Ghana. Given its central role in the democratic process, appointments to its leadership routinely draw close scrutiny from political parties, civil society groups and the general public, who expect the institution to remain independent, impartial and credible.

Mr Aboagye’s reaction is likely to fuel further debate on the appointment, as stakeholders weigh in on the qualifications, experience and perceived neutrality of the new Deputy Chairperson.

At the time of publication, the Presidency had not responded to the concerns raised by the NPP communications director. Dr Asamoah has also not publicly addressed the reaction.
