The judicial commission investigating the murder of young entrepreneur Mir Raza is likely to submit its final report to the Sindh government by October 15, according to the commission’s registrar.

The registrar said work on the report was underway, with the team continuing its efforts over the weekend and working late into the night.

Meanwhile, commission head Justice Umar Sial is scheduled to hear cases at the Hyderabad circuit bench until November 7.

Earlier, details emerged of the 19 questions the commission asked DIG Amir Farooqi, head of the investigation team, regarding the murder probe.

In his responses, Farooqi said no shortcomings had been identified in the previous investigation that could have affected the probe. However, he acknowledged irregularities during the initial stages concerning the preservation of the body and securing the crime scene.

Farooqi said investigators had collected evidence in accordance with the law but acknowledged that recovering the holster, bullet casing, lighter and cigarette packet on the first day would have been preferable.

He described the crime scene as uneven, with bushes, grass and garbage, adding that the location where a fire was set was around 15 feet from where the body was found.

The commission also questioned whether investigators had examined possible motives involving extortion, forced collection of money, blackmail or threats. Farooqi said the investigation was proceeding while keeping various possibilities in view.

Regarding financial and digital evidence, Farooqi said information about Mir Raza’s cryptocurrency trading and accounts had been obtained from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). However, further details concerning cryptocurrency and financial transactions were still awaited from the NCCIA and the State Bank of Pakistan.

He said the records would be incorporated into the investigation file and examined before the findings were presented in court.

Farooqi also said investigators were examining the conduct of police personnel and other relevant individuals. He added that strict action would be taken against anyone found to have violated the law.

The DIG further stated that efforts had been made to keep digital evidence confidential, but details had appeared in the media even before the investigation began.
