Man Utd’s Michael Carrick Sack Decision Revealed
According to a report by Football Transfer on Monday October 12, 2026, Manchester United have no immediate intention of dismissing Michael Carrick despite enduring their worst Premier League start in 40 years, with the club reportedly maintaining confidence in their manager.
The Red Devils sit 13th after drawing 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Dominic Solanke scored a stoppage-time equaliser after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off, denying United victory.
United have collected just six points from their opening six league matches, marking their poorest beginning to a campaign since 1986/87, despite facing relatively favourable opposition during that period.
Carrick faces a demanding schedule, with Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool among their next five domestic opponents. United must also navigate European fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Como.
The former midfielder became United’s permanent manager this summer, but disappointing performances have sparked speculation about his future. Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has reportedly expressed interest in replacing him.
However, TEAMtalk reports that United are not currently considering Carrick’s dismissal. Despite recording only one victory in six Premier League matches, his position remains secure for now.
United legend Gary Neville has nevertheless urged Carrick to reconsider his midfield combination following disappointing displays from Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo, suggesting the partnership lacks the required intensity.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the former defender criticised the team’s work rate, determination and fighting spirit, arguing that supporters’ boos reflected growing frustration with performances.
Neville said: “They’re both good players, by the way. But sometimes they don’t knit together or suit together.” He suggested Carlos Baleba’s introduction brought greater energy.
He added that Tielemans and Mainoo might not provide enough dynamism for a club competing in the Premier League, although he stopped short of completely abandoning either midfielder.
United invested almost €175 million in Tielemans, Baleba and Andrey Santos during the summer following Casemiro’s departure. However, those expensive midfield additions have yet to deliver consistently convincing performances.
With January approaching, United could consider further recruitment if results fail to improve. For now, Carrick retains the opportunity to address weaknesses, restore confidence and turn the season around.
