Man Utd Latest Injury Update And Potential Return Dates Ahead of Atletico Madrid Clash
According to a report by London Evening Standard on Monday October 12, 2026, Manchester United are facing fresh injury worries ahead of their Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid, with Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and several other players uncertain to feature.
United received some encouragement against Tottenham after Marcus Rashford returned from the bench and Amad Diallo made his first appearance of the season following an ankle injury.
However, concerns have emerged over Shaw and Mainoo after both players missed Mondayâs training session at Carrington. Michael Carrick is expected to provide further information during his press conference.
Shaw started Unitedâs 1-1 draw with Tottenham but was replaced by Ayden Heaven during stoppage time. Footage later showed the left-back limping as he left Old Trafford, raising doubts about his availability.
The defender previously missed Unitedâs league-phase victory over Sabah because of injury. His condition remains uncertain, with no confirmed return date available before the Atletico Madrid encounter.
Mainoo also faces a fitness concern despite completing the entire match against Tottenham. The midfielder had missed Englandâs recent Nations League fixtures before being declared fit for the weekend game.
His absence from training has created uncertainty over whether he will travel to Spain. United are expected to clarify his situation ahead of Tuesdayâs European fixture.
Patrick Dorgu remains another significant concern after suffering a suspected hamstring injury while representing Denmark against Wales. He was substituted after 30 minutes and returned to Manchester for further assessment.
Carrick previously indicated that the versatile player could be sidelined for several weeks. His potential return is currently expected in November, depending on his recovery.
Benjamin Sesko is struggling with renewed discomfort in his shin after missing Unitedâs trip to Fulham. Carrick explained: âIt was a pain in his shin. Weâre not sure with him yet.â
The striker had appeared close to full fitness after starting against Sabah, but his latest setback has left his comeback date unclear.
Noussair Mazraoui also remains doubtful after sustaining a knock while on international duty with Morocco. Carrick said the defender was ânot quite rightâ, making an immediate return unlikely.
The Moroccan missed the Tottenham match and was absent from training before the Atletico clash. His possible comeback is pencilled in for the league meeting with Leeds on October 18.
Matthijs de Ligt is nearing a return after spending months recovering from a back injury suffered against Crystal Palace last November. Following surgery in May, he recently featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne.
Although he was not included against Tottenham, United could consider him for the Atletico match on October 13.
Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte continues recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained while representing Uruguay. The midfielder is expected to miss most of the campaign, with a possible return in spring or summer 2027.
