London travel news LIVE: Elizabeth line trains suspended ‘because of swan on the track’

PAMichael Howie, Senior News Editor2 minutes agoThe Elizabeth line is suffering major disruption on Monday morning.

The service has been suspended between Whitechapel and Stratford due to an ā€œobstruction on the trackā€ at Stratford.

Passengers have posted messages on X saying trains have been brought to a standstill because of a swan on the line.

The Standard has approached TfL for comment.

Meanwhile, the District line was part suspended between Earls Court and Wimbledon due to a signal fault at Putney.

An Elizabeth line passenger has posted video from inside a train, in which the driver explains that ā€œa swan in the middle of the trackā€ is causing the disruption.

ā€œThis is a real reason. This is due to a swan in the middle of the track.

ā€œIt is a protected species. There is nothing I can do at the moment. If I get further information I’ll give you a call.ā€

The Elizabeth line is currently suspended between Whitechapel and Stratford.

According to National Rail, ā€œanimals on the lineā€ are blocking trains.

It says disruption is expected to last until 11.30am.

The Standard has contacted Transport for London (TfL) for comment.
