LG minister directs strict anti-littering, anti-smog measures
LAHORE – Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has directed officials to intensify anti-littering inspections and implement effective anti-smog measures across various tehsils. Chairing a meeting at the Suthra Punjab Authority office, he directed Field Monitoring Officers (FMOs) to ensure their presence in Union Councils and stressed compliance with the Environment Department’s instructions to combat smog. Secretary Local Government Zaid bin Maqsood and DG Suthra Punjab Authority Umar Javed attended the meeting, while commissioners and managing directors from Multan, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan and Faisalabad participated via video link. Officials were briefed on waste collection points, waste enclosures and the ongoing geospatial mapping of Union Councils. The minister said the movement of loader rickshaws would be digitally monitored in each beat. He directed officials to promptly shift waste from temporary collection points to dumping sites, report crop-burning incidents to the assistant commissioner and use mechanical sweepers instead of manual road cleaning during the smog season.
