Kobbie Mainoo Reveals Manchester United Dream Ahead of Atletico Madrid Clash

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Monday October 12, 2026, Kobbie Mainoo has revealed his ambition to help Manchester United return to football’s summit, with the midfielder determined to win major trophies as the Red Devils prepare for their Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid.

United travel to Spain after beginning their European campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory over Sabah, marking their return to the competition after a three-year absence and raising expectations among supporters.

The 21-year-old has become an important figure under manager Michael Carrick after struggling for regular opportunities during Ruben Amorim’s reign, establishing himself as a consistent starter in United’s midfield this season.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Mainoo explained how Carrick’s experience of the club’s successful years has inspired him to help restore their former glory. “I want to bring that back,” the England international declared.

“I want to feel that feeling. I want to win and I want to win a lot. That’s my dream, for this club to be at the top again,” Mainoo added, outlining his ambitions.

Mainoo previously broke into United’s senior squad under Erik ten Hag, experiencing Champions League football as an 18-year-old when the club faced Bayern Munich and Galatasaray during their European campaign three seasons ago.

Reflecting on those appearances, the midfielder admitted the experience left him hungry for more opportunities on Europe’s biggest stage. “I need to feel that again. I need to be under those lights again,” he recalled.

However, Mainoo withdrew from England’s Nations League squad to manage his workload following a demanding start to the campaign, having started five of United’s six Premier League matches under Carrick this season.

His availability for Tuesday’s Atletico Madrid encounter remains uncertain because neither Mainoo nor teammate Luke Shaw appeared in Monday’s opening training session, creating concerns ahead of the crucial European fixture in Spain.

United will subsequently return to domestic action against Leeds United this weekend, with Carrick hoping his squad can maintain their momentum while Mainoo’s fitness situation develops ahead of the demanding upcoming schedule.
