King Charles urged not to accept apology from Harry and Meghan due to financially motive
0King Charles has reportedly been advised not to accept an apology from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle because it could be financially motivated.
In late August, the Duke, 42, and Duchess of Sussex, 45, relocated back to the U.K. with their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. Days later, on September 7, as the Sussexes settled in the Cotswolds, the 77-year-old monarch issued a letter confirming that the couple would remain non-working members of the Royal Family.
Now, royal experts are speculating whether Harry and Meghan truly want to apologize to Charles and the Royal Family following years of tension and estrangement. However, whether Charles should accept an apology is another issue. This comes after reports claimed Charles is giving Harry the silent treatment.

James Walker, an associate editor at Daily Express, discussed the situation with host JJ Anisiobi. "To be honest, I don't know how much to believe it. I believe the story, I believe they're going to apologize, but if I were Wills and Catherine, Charles and Camilla, I wouldn't be taking that apology remotely seriously," said Walker (per The News).
He claimed that Harry and Meghan "just want money back in their bank accounts" and "want their lives to be easy."

Walker added, "These guys have got nothing going for them, and I think it's probably just very [boring] and they feel a bit useless and redundant," adding that a private apology would not be enough.
Walker also claimed that the Royal Family "might be looking for something more."
"I think the apology needs to be as big and as public," Anisiobi explained. "I fear the public, though, the British public who some of whom were very hurt by accusations against the Royal Family. They're not going to forgive Harry and Meghan."
He added, "I think the public who already dislike Harry and Meghan will see this apology the same way you're seeing it, just as a means to an end so they can get back all the [perks] they had when they were working royals."
Meanwhile, a source has told PEOPLE that Harry and Meghan are not planning to apologize to Prince William and Kate Middleton after a new report.
The Express reported on October 6 that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hoped to apologize to the Prince and Princess of Wales for remarks made in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The report claimed the couple wanted to specifically apologize for Meghan's revelation that there had been "concerns and conversations" within the Royal Family about how dark Prince Archie's skin might be before he was born.
However, a source close to Harry and Meghan told PEOPLE that the claim is "nonsense."
The speculation over whether Harry and Meghan will or won't apologize to any members of the Royal Family comes amid other reports that Charles has shunned Harry.
Despite Harry expressing his wishes to reconnect with the Royal Family in a May 2025 BBC interview, five years after he and Meghan stepped back as working senior royals and moved to the U.S. in 2020, he's reportedly getting nowhere, even though he's returned to the U.K.
Harry and Charles had recently been trying to improve their relationship, but are now no longer in contact. The monarch is allegedly giving Harry the silent treatment after feeling "bullied" by his son's "tantrums."
Sources told NewsNation that Harry is "frustrated and angry" because his attempts to repair his relationships with Charles and Prince William are failing. While Charles gives him the cold shoulder, William has kept completely quiet about his brother's return.
However, it's unclear why Charles is shutting out his youngest son. The source added, "Harry's calls aren't being put through. The King and William are treating this situation like they did when Harry threw international tantrums while living in Montecito."
The source continued, "He doesn't call to catch up or try to meet up. He calls to complain and try to bully his father into getting his taxpayer-funded security back. It's exhausting. And ill-advised."
The insider noted that it's "all just so horrid" and "predictable," explaining, "Harry says he wants to come home, he misses the U.K., and wants his children to know his father. Yet when he arrives, he immediately starts banging on about security, getting into public spats with his family, and complaining."
"Nothing is ever good enough" unless it's exactly what Harry wants, the source added. Harry reportedly came back "just as angry" as he was when he left in 2020.
Another source told The Daily Mail that Harry was "spitting blood" at his family and claimed they owed him an apology.
"Friends who caught up with Harry were expecting to hear noises of contrition and humility," the insider told the outlet. "Instead, there will be no imminent mea culpa from Harry by the sounds of things. Far from it, in fact. He is still in that Oprah mindset."
Harry's friends were reportedly "agog to hear he still feels angry with members of the Royal Family … and still expects an apology."
On September 7, days after the Duke and Duchess's move back to the U.K., Charles issued a letter confirming that the couple would remain non-working royals.
The Lord Chamberlain, the most senior official in the royal household, issued the letter on Charles's behalf as formal guidance after officials received a "number of requests" for clarification regarding the couple's royal status.
Besides the letter, Charles and the Royal Family have not publicly acknowledged Harry and Meghan's return.
