Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has revealed that the team’s recent poor run in the Ghana Premier League inspired their victory against Port City FC.

The Phobians hosted Port City FC on Sunday in their week six fixture of the 2026/27 league campaign.

In a game played at the University of Ghana Stadium, a Frank Duku strike handed Hearts of Oak a crucial 1-0 win, as they ended a three-game winless run.

Speaking after the match, Kelvin Osei Asibey expressed excitement and relief, saying the poor run inspired the Phobians to fight for victory on the day.

“I’m so happy and excited. We came into this game focused on winning the game. We had no other option because we had played three games without winning. So we just had to win to make our supporters happy. That motivated us to win this game,” Asibey said.

After the narrow win against Port City FC, Hearts of Oak have now climbed to second in the Ghana Premier League standings. With 11 points, they trail league leaders Medeama SC by three points.
