John Mahama Reveals What Happened When Ibrahim Traoré Came To Him On Stage
President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso became one of the most prominent figures at John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration after receiving a remarkable show of support from the crowd at Black Star Square in Accra.
Speaking about the ceremony, Mahama recalled how the Burkinabé leader attracted what he described as the strongest applause of the entire event when he appeared before the gathering.
The former president said the reaction was evidence of the enormous admiration Traoré enjoys among many Ghanaians. According to him, the level of excitement that greeted the Burkina Faso president’s appearance stood out from the responses given to other distinguished guests.
Traoré has attracted considerable attention in the region because of his approach to leadership and his policies in Burkina Faso, factors that appear to have contributed to his popularity among some Ghanaian citizens.
His appearance at the inauguration, however, also sparked debate after he was seen with a firearm while on the stage. The incident prompted different opinions about whether carrying a weapon was suitable for a formal national ceremony.
Regardless of the controversy, Traoré’s participation provided a memorable moment during the inauguration and was seen as reflecting the diplomatic ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Mahama used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to Ghana’s development, saying his administration would concentrate on improving the lives of citizens and working towards a stronger and more prosperous nation.
