Pakistani women government officers encouraged to apply for Japan scholarships

The Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) Programme 2026 has announced 16 scholarship opportunities for eligible Pakistani government officers, with female officers also encouraged to apply for postgraduate studies at Japanese universities.

The programme aims to strengthen the administrative capacity of the Government of Pakistan by providing opportunities for government officials to pursue master’s degrees in Japan.

Kaneko Nahomi, country officer at the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), briefed officials during a meeting with Director General Dr Lubna Nazir and Director Finance Chaudhry Zubair Ahmed at the Punjab Protection Authority headquarters in Lahore.

According to the information shared during the briefing, the scholarships are allocated across three areas:

Public Administration and Finance: 11 scholarships

Industrial Development and Investment Climate: Three scholarships

Energy Policy and Climate Change: Two scholarships

The scholarship package covers round-trip airfare between Islamabad and Japan, full tuition fees at the host university, fixed allowances and assistance with accommodation arrangements. The medium of instruction will be English.

Applicants must be between 25 and 40 years of age as of April 2027 and hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. The general educational requirement is 16 years of formal education.

Relevant research and professional experience may also be considered under the programme’s qualification criteria.

Eligible candidates include officers in relevant federal government professional groups and government officers in Basic Scale 17 (BS-17) or above. Applicants must have at least three years of government service experience.

Part-time employment and volunteer activities will not count towards the required work experience. Applicants’ official responsibilities and administrative experience will also be assessed.

The deadline to submit applications for the 2026 programme is November 27, 2026.

Eligible government officials, particularly female officers, are encouraged to review the programme requirements and apply for the opportunity to pursue higher education and develop their professional skills.
