Jail Them When You Come To Power, We Don’t Care – Nana Ama Agyarko Fires Afenyo-Markin
NPP member Nana Ama Agyarko has called on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to stop complaining about the Mahama administration’s investigations into alleged corruption and its efforts to recover stolen or misused public funds.
According to Agyarko, the priority for Ghanaians is to ensure accountability, regardless of the political affiliation or status of those being investigated. She maintained that individuals found responsible for misusing state resources must be held accountable.
Her remarks were directed at Afenyo-Markin’s opposition to the government’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative and related investigations. The Minority Leader has accused the administration of using the process to target former NPP officials and members for political reasons.
Afenyo-Markin has described the approach as “Rambo style” accountability and alleged that the investigations are intended to intimidate political opponents.
Agyarko dismissed the suggestion that political interests should take precedence over recovering public funds. She argued that the authorities must investigate corruption allegations and ensure that state resources are properly protected.
She also cautioned against portraying the NPP as an opponent of accountability, particularly given reports of alleged corruption, financial misconduct and the misuse of public resources.
The controversy comes as the Attorney General pursues legal cases against several former government officials accused of causing financial losses to the state. In some cases, authorities have reportedly moved to secure assets and impose strict bail conditions on suspects.
Although Afenyo-Markin has warned that the NDC risks public criticism if its anti-corruption efforts appear politically selective, Agyarko maintains that the law should apply equally to all citizens.
She emphasised that no one should be shielded from accountability because of political affiliation. She called for a fair process that establishes the facts, facilitates the recovery of public funds where appropriate and ensures that anyone found culpable faces the law.
