Jacob Zuma expected to be discharged from hospital on Monday
Ask AI 1minJacob Zuma is expected to be discharged from hospital on Monday, with a source close to the former president dismissing reports that he was in a critical condition.
Former president Jacob Zuma is expected to be discharged from hospital on Monday.
A source close to him told IOL, “The president is doing fine. He is diabetic and was overworking himself, so he needed to undergo some checks and get some rest.
“He needed that rest. He was exhausted, but he’s fine and should be discharged today,” said the source.
This latest development follows days of speculation surrounding Zuma’s health since being admitted to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg earlier this week.
Several sources close to Zuma hit back at media speculation, with one also dismissing comments attributed to someone claiming to be Zuma’s brother.
“Zuma’s last biological brother died two years ago. He doesn’t have a brother, so we don’t know where the media got that from. You know, in our culture, we call each other brother, but they can’t quote someone and say it’s his brother simply to sensationalise what he is saying.
“It was also incorrect to say the president was in a critical condition. That’s not true,” added the source.
Speculation surrounding Zuma’s health, including claims of his impending death, also prompted Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni to intervene, calling for Zuma to be afforded privacy.
Zuma’s son and deputy president of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK), Duduzane Zuma, also shot down reports of his father’s ailing health this week, saying he was fine and ready to continue leading the party.
