Adorned with exquisite interiors and itineraries that traverse some of Europe’s most captivating landscapes, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express has found yet another way to raise the bar.

For 2027, the legendary train has unveiled a new itinerary that will see it arrive in Monte Carlo for the first time, bringing its signature glamour to the heart of Monaco.

On May 10 2027, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will depart Paris for a journey along the Cote d’Azur, with a long-awaited call at Monte Carlo.

The route traces the dramatic red cliffs of the Massif de l’Estérel before sweeping past Saint-Raphaël and continuing towards Cannes and Nice.

Along the way, travellers can soak up sweeping views of the French Riviera, with its glittering coastline and sun-drenched scenery unfolding beyond the carriage windows.

As the train approaches Monaco, the railway carves its way into the mountainside, revealing spectacular views before the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express glides into Monaco–Monte-Carlo station.

Pascal Deyrolle, area managing director for Trains – Continental Europe, commented: ‘Monaco has long held a special place in the story of European travel, with generations drawn to the Côte d’Azur by its distinctive sense of style, culture, and occasion.

‘Introducing the destination feels like a natural continuation for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, bringing the romance of luxury rail travel to a locale that has always understood the art of arrival.

‘There’s also something rather special about coming back to Monte Carlo, given the role it played in the train’s history.

‘In 1977, two original carriages were acquired here at auction, setting in motion the journey that would become the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express we know today.’

Passengers will be treated to the train’s renowned midnight blue carriages and have the choice of elegant historic cabins, suites and grand suites each decorated in art deco style.

Or, for those seeking something even more indulgent, L’Observatoire is an exclusive carriage that passengers can book entirely for themselves.

It boasts a bedroom, en suite with a freestanding bath tub, a living area, library and a secret tearoom.

During the trip, as the night draws in, guests can enjoy dinner at one of the two restaurant cars – Étoile du Nord or L’Oriental.

Afterwards, a tipple at the famous Bar Car ‘3674’ finishes off the night with cocktails and live piano.

Breakfast consists of fresh pastries served with pressed fruit juices, tea and coffee.

The breath-taking journey is set to become an annual addition to the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express’s schedule.

Prices for the Paris to Monte Carlo – Monaco route aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express start from €4,870 (£4,114) per person based on two guests sharing a historic cabin.

The voyage includes an overnight stay on the train, 24-hour steward service, all meals with sommelier’s choice of wine and unlimited soft drinks and transfers.
