INEC disowns viral governorship candidates’ list for six states
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a viral publication it described as fraudulent, claiming to be a special announcement concerning governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in six states.
In a notice shared on its official X account on Monday, October 12, the commission identified the affected states as Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.
INEC stated that the publication did not originate from the commission and urged members of the public to disregard it and refrain from sharing the information.
The electoral body clarified that any claim suggesting it had issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states was false.
It advised Nigerians to rely solely on official notices, press releases and information published through its verified communication channels, including its website, Facebook page, X and Instagram accounts, as well as the INEC News Portal.
The commission also urged the public to remain vigilant and verify electoral information before sharing it to avoid being misled by fraudulent publications.
INEC’s warning came days after it released the final list of candidates for the governorship elections scheduled for early 2027. The list has generated controversy in several states following the omission of some candidates’ names.
The commission reiterated its commitment to providing accurate information and encouraged members of the public seeking clarification to contact it through its official communication channels.
