Ida Odinga Takes Kowak Community Delegation On Grand Tour Of Raila Odinga’s Mausoleum

Ambassador Ida Odinga has taken members of the Kowak community from Kenya and Tanzania on a tour of the mausoleum of her late husband, Raila Amolo Odinga, at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

The visit brought together members of the community with shared Luo roots, offering them an opportunity to connect with their heritage while paying tribute to one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.

Ida had earlier hosted the delegation, which included members from Karachuonyo in Homa Bay County and Tanzania, in a gathering focused on cultural identity, history and unity among the Luo community.

During the engagement, she emphasised the importance of preserving traditions and strengthening relationships among people whose cultural connections extend beyond national borders.

Tour of Raila mausoleum provided another opportunity for the visitors to reflect on his life, political journey and contribution to Kenya’s democratic development.

Located at the Odinga family homestead in Bondo, the memorial was officially unveiled by President William Ruto on October 7, 2026.

The site preserves aspects of Raila’s political legacy and family history through its architecture, photographs and inscriptions honouring his life.

Raila, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, died on October 15, 2025, aged 80.

His burial and the construction of the mausoleum have made Kang’o ka Jaramogi an important place of remembrance for his family, supporters and visitors.

Ida’s engagement with the Kowak community highlighted the connection between cultural heritage and remembrance, bringing together people from different locations through a shared history.

The visit also underscored the importance of passing cultural traditions to younger generations while preserving the memory of prominent figures who shaped the country’s history.
