Hanuman Ansh Gets Lukewarm Response In Telugu

The Hindi blockbuster Hanuman Ansh has failed to recreate its success at the Telugu box office, despite a wide release across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The film was released in over 700 screens in the two Telugu states, the Telugu-dubbed version has reportedly collected below Rs 2 crore so far, according to a distributor. With around Rs 12 crore to recover in the Telugu market, the film has a long way to go to emerge as a commercially viable venture.

“No doubt, it is one of the revered Hindi films, but releasing the Telugu version after 45 days was a bit late,” says producer Abhishek Agarwal, who believes that a significant section of the Hyderabad audience had already watched the original Hindi version.

“I think the occupancy for the Hindi version in Hyderabad was 4th or 5th place in India. Most viewers had already watched and adored the original,” he adds.

Abhishek feels that releasing dubbed versions sooner could help filmmakers tap into the excitement generated by a successful Hindi release. “Probably, they should release the Telugu version within a week of its success in Hindi. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to find a fresh audience,” he says.

However, he acknowledges that dubbing, translating songs and completing censor formalities can take more than a month. “We cannot blame the producers for arriving a little late. Everyone has their own strategy, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t,” he points out.

Abhishek says he has been in touch with the film’s producer and director, Vishal Chaturvedi, and praises the filmmaker’s achievement. “I have been in touch with this talented director, and I consider his work among the best in Indian cinema,” he says.

Made on a shoestring budget of around Rs 2 crore, the film has reportedly grossed over Rs 400 crore at the Hindi box office. “It is no mean achievement. I hope other directors learn a lesson or two from this blockbuster,” he adds.

Beyond its box-office performance, Hanuman Ansh conveys a message of humility, selflessness and devotion. The story follows a boy whose life becomes closely connected with the spirit of Lord Hanuman, encouraging him to shed his ego, serve others and recognise divinity in every person.

Rather than focusing solely on supernatural powers, the film emphasises a simple philosophy: love everyone, serve everyone and remember God. “This film will remain etched in the minds of audiences for a long time,” Abhishek concludes.
